It is believed to be one of the 64 Shakti peeths where the body parts(eyes) of Sati(wife of Lord Shiva) fell on earth while being carried by Lord Shiva.

As the name reflect, this holy shrine is dedicated to Goddess Sati and is located on the north shore of the Naini lake. Every year in the month of September a fair is organized nearby to the temple. During this traditional fair the entire town is decorated like a bride.
